Character
Name: Laguna Loire
Series: Final Fantasy VIII
Timeline: Just before becoming president - Dissadia 012 memories are there, but they'll need to be awakened.
Canon Resource Links: The big, bad Final Fantasy Wiki.

Personality: Laguna Loire is one of the more cheerful, if not a bit idiotic, Final Fantasy playable characters. He'll joke and laugh about things, seemingly not focusing on anything serious or scary. However, he's not a full idiot. Just a bit of one. He knows how to motivate people, for one, and how to cheer them up. He might be called naive, he might be called foolish, but you've got to admit - he knows how to lead, and how to progress, and how to try and keep people in high spirits. After all, it's not really a good sigh if you're depressed on the field. You might jusy give up, and that's really bad!
However, this isn't all there is to Laguna. Deep down, or sometimes not, Laguna is nervous. Some people say he's just nervous around pretty women, but that's not it. He's also nervous when, well, he's gotten others into danger, or is under a lot of pressure, or may be about to die - you know, the big things. And ladies. His body feels stiff... and he gets cramps, mostly of the leg sort. He also tends to stammer when he's nervous, and he'll try and change the subject. However, he also tends to speak without thinking - without knowing what'll happen. In fact, that's how he agreed to many things.
Laguna is truely a family guy, and loves his Ellone and Raine. Pity what's gonna happen, huh? With his wife dying and his daughter getting on a ship and his son becoming a loner. He's more of a playful uncle, though, with his childlike joking and playfulness - even if he'd been Squall's dad, I can imagine him being very lenient and playful - just like how he was with Ellone.
Laguna tends to like talking about himself, though. He enjoys the journey, and enjoys speaking about it. After all, he did want to quit the army and become a journalist. Even if he's about to settle down as president of a hidden city. He doesn't enjoy having to kill lots of people in war, though, and wishes he didn't need to do that sort of fighting to save lil' Elle. He'll be glad to stop!
As another note, Laguna has a terrible sense of direction - he gets everybody lost quite a bit, both in FF8 and 012, but he just tries and shrug it off, as part of his cheerfulness. But in all honesty? He wouldn't care either way, because as I mentioned, he likes the journey and the people he meets.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Well, on the plus side...
+ Laguna can survive out in the field, due to his old training. He can get food from the wild, he can survive in the rain.
+ He's not the sort to just give up, which is rather good. Plus his cheer! That really is a power, in the world of Final Fantasy.
+ He already knows how to trust some sorts of creatures - such as the Moomba, so he won't be shocked as some beasts being friendly if captured.

And on the minus side...
- His sense of direction. It is horribad. He'll end up getting lost quite a bit, as he notices things which get him curious.
- His leg cramps. Really. Due to his nerves, he has them, and they get him down a bit.
- His regrets and fears, though, do get him in the gut. He can't help but wonder - is Elle okay now? What about Raine? He'll try and mask it, but he can't help but worry and fidget and the such.
- Plus! He's more apt at machine guns then hand-to-hand combat! So he won't be able to fight by himself for a while, but he'll be willing to use Pokemon.

Samples
First Person Sample: [The camera was upside-down, as Laguna used it to film the enviroment a bit. Laguna had a bit of a frown, though.]
So... this is Route 36, right? I could have sworn it looked smaller on the map...
[If you're sharp at maps, or where he is, though, it's clear: Laguna is on Route 32, the stark opposite of the shorter route to Goldenrod City. He doesn't seem too phazed, though. The guy let out a laugh.]
But, man oh man... this path is still pretty nice. The monsters here aren't too violent. They don't all charge at me!
[Speaking of, though... suddenly, he points his camera down to his Snivy.]

Anyway, Snivy here doesn't seem to like me. I try and talk to him, but he just ignores me. Wonder why? He won't even react to his nickna--
[But suddenly, Laguna shifts the camera, and it snaps off. It's a random encounter, don't mind him! He'll be back to reply soon]

Third Person Sample: The winds here was a lot different then the winds in Esthar. But of course it was! This place looked filled with trees, with strange birds - it was so calming! Laguna couldn't help but sit down, looking back at that house he was at before. "What a strange woman, now!" he sighed. Well... at least Ellone was safe. He was worried.
He could feel it, though. Those 'faeries' had vanished too... they normally vanished when the excitement faded. Haah... time to relax. At least, if he didn't feel the oddest sense of... nah. It passed. As he let out a stretch, though, he suddenly noticed something. No, not just that his things were mostly gone. There was a strange creature looking at him. He didn't know what it was - it looked kinda like a... dragon? Without wings? Well, that would be a lizard...
It was looking away from Laguna, though, the leafed tail twitching a little, almost irritated? Who knew. Laguna sure didn't - was this thing friendly? Well, only one thing to do! Laguna suddenly smiled.
"Hi there, little guy. What are you?" he said, putting out a hand. The creature tch'ed, continuing to frown, not answering. But, Laguna suddenly layed down, the creature next to his head.
"Wonder what you're thinking about? I mean, not many creatures can speak my language in my old world either. Old world - can't believe I'm saying that so easily! Hahaha..."
Should he be worried? He couldn't help but, well, feel his worry fade. He was stuck, it looked like, but so much had just happened. He'd become president of a hidden land, he'd saved Ellone, maybe he'd even get to see Raine again soon... okay, maybe he had a reason to return soon.
He looked over to the snake, who'd turned to sneering at Laguna a little. Laguna let out a chuckle. "You're pretty serious, you know? How about we work together. I don't know, I could use a guy to keep me in check."
Sigh. The Snivy looked him over, before sitting down. After all... this was his trainer. How did he not know? Did he even listen to anything, or look at his bag? But either way, the Snivy just nodded, with an almost dread.
"That settles it, then!" Laguna said, sitting up. There was a cruise ship over there... it could be nice. Or a road, too... the road looked nicer. He could have a nice travel, he could explore the place.
"Well... to travel well begins with a single step, am I right? Off we go!"
Laguna let out a laugh, as his new Snivy stared down Laguna, before it sighed. What a moron. Did he even know where they were going...? But the path opened, as Laguna took his first steps onto Route 29...
